Florida life

June 14th, 2008 by Rob

florida-life

So I am living here for the summer, working with the University of Florida. Interning really. So far my job consists of riding an ATV on the beach for 5 hours a night, under beautifully clear skies looking for turtle crawls. The season has been slow so far, I have spent most nights sitting in the back of the old blue S10, or laying across the quad staring at the stars and getting to know the milky-way. The bugs can get bad, they bother me most when I get one in the eye as I’m driving down the beach. Even still they do not disrupt the beauty of Cape San Blas.

OH HAI

March 13th, 2008 by Rob

oh-hai

Sorry for the Lolcat title. I just havent posted since sometime in December or November. I remember saying something good was coming up, some cool content from BoredMind. Well here it isn’t. Here is where I will make up excuses as to why nothing has happened in that department. Can I blame it on school? It is my senior year and I am trying to get my senior research done, although I’ve been slacking on that too. What about a love life? HA. Oh I know, my free time has been consumed with staring at my monitor doing nothing or playing Guild Wars, which my freshman year room mate Mike got me to start playing. It’s fun. Keeps my inner geek happy while waiting for DnD4 and some people to play it with.

I’m also acting in and co-directing The Servant of Two Masters this semester. It’s an Italian play that was updated in the 1980’s with then-current inside political jokes and tons of feminist propaganda. We are basically updating the jokes, keeping the feminist stuff in there because it is somewhat subtle. Should be a good time and a new experience for me directing and also acting with the audience on stage.

See you next year!

Zombie Books

November 15th, 2007 by Rob

zombie-books

In these crazy times we need to be prepared for anything, especially for the rise of the undead. With our government’s collective mind focused on things like the upcoming election, the unconstitutional “war” and ruining Barry Bonds’ name it is important that we stay focused on the impending zombie invasion. Jason and I have already read the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. Jason just bought World War Z by Brooks and has started to read it while I am lagging a little behind. However to make up for my delay I just ordered World War Z as well as Book of the Dead: The Complete History of Zombie Cinema and The Zen of Zombie: Better Living Through the Undead. Now you might ask why, well World War Z is the best account of what has actually happened while the other two will give me plenty of information on fictionalized accounts of zombie outbreaks and allow me to get inside of the zombie head–it is important to know thy enemy.

Now I just need to start concentrating on graduating from this school so I can begin to fully prepare myself for the day I am faced with the moaning undead.

Rob out.

A cool little page, generated using Profilactic. It keeps track of all of my online social network doings. Kind of cool if you want to stalk me, or are interested in the service at all.

The 10 Most Caffeinated Diet Drinks

If you are moderating your caffeine intake - it’s worth noting that most diet soft drinks have as much (or sometimes even more) caffeine than their sugar-filled counterparts.

Diet Coke in particular has 30% more caffeine than regular Coca-cola.

Here is a list of the most caffeinated diet soft drinks.

Zombie test day

July 21st, 2007 by Rob

zombie-test-day

So I work night security at a summer camp around here. I love it, the camp is beautiful and I like hearing the birds at 4:30 am. I also spend a lot of time looking at zombie make up tips. Any one that has talked to me for a few minutes in the past few weeks will know that I have recently been a little preoccupied with the walking dead. In fact last night I finished reading The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks.
So I have been on a quest to do some zombie make-up. I looked through a lot of sites around the webs and found some great tips on how to do different things. Today I used liquid latex, toilet paper, face paint and some fake blood made of corn syrup, red food dye and chocolate syrup (probably the sweetest blood you’ll ever taste).
Here are some pictures of the final product:

Unfortunately the only face paint I could find was white. I think though that I can do a successful effect by just using the liquid latex over layers. That way i could have a much more “fresh” zombie look. I will try o test that some time soon. Also I am going to try to make prosthetic skin that can be torn away to reveal blood or other things for an effect of being eaten. This is surely a fun hobby and at the very least can make for some good Halloweens or even some movies.

West Coast Time

July 16th, 2007 by Jason

west-coast-time

I am in Los Angeles now, at the LMU campus for three weeks. I come home August 4th. It’s not bad here on the campus, lots of grass and palm trees and very nice weather. The center of LA is about 20 miles from here, so I don’t get all that noise and pollution and other stuff. I don’t have much to say other than I am here, and pretty busy except for a few hours each day.

Enjoy July everyone.
