The site hadn’t been upgraded in a long time, too long in fact. So with the release of Wordpress 2.5 I decided it was time to really update this thing. I had been worried in the past with plugins and other things not working, but with 2.5 it seems that most things had been considered and there is even an auto -update-plugin feature. With a little research and a bunch of backups I decided it was time to go.

I did the upgrade this morning and was surprised at how easy it went and how almost everything worked right away. There were only two issues, and only one was major. The smaller issue was compatibility with the FireStats plugin. It was not showing some information correctly and messing with the sidebar widget tool a little. After upgrading the plugin it all works perfectly now. The bigger issue and the one I am not too happy about is the Adhesive plugin which I had been using to keep regular posts at the top and all of my Twitter daily posts below that, as to not lose the regular posts in all my Twitter spam. This plugin does not work at all and all other alternatives to it seem to break Wordpress altogether.

My options now are to stop with the Twitter posts each day or to try to hack the code to get it to work. Seeing as how I’m 1.) really lazy right now and not wanting to look at code and 2.) probably losing RSS subscriptions by posting Twitter things everyday I have decided to just let it go for now and to stop posting Twitter things.

I think most of what is in 2.5 is not noticeable by the viewer of the site, most things are what I will see in the backend, but I’m sure there are performance updates and such that might make it run faster. At any rate, if you see something that isn’t working, let me know. Thanks.

Sorry for the Lolcat title. I just havent posted since sometime in December or November. I remember saying something good was coming up, some cool content from BoredMind. Well here it isn’t. Here is where I will make up excuses as to why nothing has happened in that department. Can I blame it on school? It is my senior year and I am trying to get my senior research done, although I’ve been slacking on that too. What about a love life? HA. Oh I know, my free time has been consumed with staring at my monitor doing nothing or playing Guild Wars, which my freshman year room mate Mike got me to start playing. It’s fun. Keeps my inner geek happy while waiting for DnD4 and some people to play it with.

I’m also acting in and co-directing The Servant of Two Masters this semester. It’s an Italian play that was updated in the 1980’s with then-current inside political jokes and tons of feminist propaganda. We are basically updating the jokes, keeping the feminist stuff in there because it is somewhat subtle. Should be a good time and a new experience for me directing and also acting with the audience on stage.

I have updated and changed the design of the site, I moved to a more scalable and widget friendly design. This should allow me to fix this easier and the load times should be much better on the site.

I’ll probably make a post about graduating and all that is to come in a few days. Right now just don’t feel like it though.

Whoops, sorry about all those posts flooding your RSS and such. I am importing my Tumblr feed into the blog now, I seem to update that more than the blog itself. So watch for those.

Well, I have been meaning to make a post about Twitter, but I really couldn’t do it justice, so I will let this guy do it.

If you’re not using Twitter yet, you may feel as if you’ve missed out. Twitter has not only tipped the tuna (begun to peak in popularity), but by some estimations, it has already jumped the shark (devolved into inanity). Don’t let massive overuse by SXSW geeks or the whining of Twitter haters who weren’t there and missed the fun put you off. Twitter is an interesting and practical real-time messaging system for groups and friends. It’s just not completely obvious how to get into it. So, here’s a quick newbie’s guide to this new platform. This guide doesn’t cover every feature of Twitter, but it should help to get you started.

What is Twitter?

Twitter is an online service that lets you broadcast short messages to your friends or “followers.” It also lets you specify which Twitter users you want to follow so you can read their messages in one place.
