Working and updates

June 26th, 2007 by Jason

working-and-updates

I haven’t updated in a while, I have moved down to Baltimore for 3 weeks to work at Johns Hopkins University and I will move to LA to work for them as well in another 3 weeks. I will try to update some while here, but I don’t get too much time to myself. If you want to talk to me or contact me leave an email or call me, other than that I’m hard to find.

Bored

June 12th, 2007 by Rob

bored

Because I don’t start work for another week and half (real work not the 5 hours a week in the student development office) I have been watching a lot of tv. Right now I am watching UFC on Spike TV, apparently I like tv for men. I remember watching UFC tapes from the early 90s when I would go with my parents to the video store. That was before the rules and they would have two opposing styles go toe to toe and just destroy each other. Now it seems like a contest to who can get the other person on the floor first to make them tap out, pretty homo-erotic. But still its fun to watch. The willingness of two men to stand in a ring and forget about their own body while trying to destroy the opponent’s is incredible.
But I have to wonder… how would people that are near masters of a certain martial art do in these competitions? Men that can hit with the force of a car crash. Are the people that fight in “the octagon” that powerful? And do they know enough of any one martial art to actually do a lot of damage? Or does my understanding of martial arts come solely from movies? Either way it is fun to watch.

Also Papelbon is insane.

photosynth

I really can’t describe this in any way that will do it justice, but Photosynth is an amazing new technology from Microsoft that you should check out. Watch this video, you will be amazed and then try it for real on the Photosynth site:

Photosynth is an amazing new technology from Microsoft Live Labs that will change forever the way you think about digital photos.
Introducing Photosynth

Our software takes a large collection of photos of a place or an object, analyzes them for similarities, and displays them in a reconstructed three-dimensional space.

With Photosynth you can:

* Walk or fly through a scene to see photos from any angle.
* Seamlessly zoom in or out of a photo whether it’s megapixels or gigapixels in size.
* See where pictures were taken in relation to one another.
* Find similar photos to the one you’re currently viewing.
* Send a collection - or a particular view of one - to a friend.

Knocked Up

June 4th, 2007 by Jason

knocked-up

I watched “Knocked Up” today, it was great! Much better than I thought it would be even. I just found a review of it that I feel does it the justice it deserves, check it out and check out the movie.

Some of the funniest moments we experience in real life are the unintentional ones — sometimes awkward, sometimes embarrassing. Those unique moments are nearly impossible to recreate, and often lost in translation when attempting to convey to another person. It’s times like that which called for the invention of the phrase ‘You had to be there.’

Under the wrong direction, Knocked Up could have easily degenerated into a slap-stick, knee-jerk, comedy — one that plays every scene for the cheap laugh or plays every character for their stereotypical role-response. Fortunately, that’s not the case. Instead, we’re served-up a film in which the characters are fully developed, the situations are nearly devoid of contrivance, and the comedy stems mostly from the awkward realities we all face.

CatCam

catcam

CatCam

This is really cool. This guy put a small camera on his cat that took pictures ever few minutes and then let the cat do whatever it is cats do. The page describes how he made the camera and scroll to the bottom for links to the pictures the cat took. It’s really cool to see what the cat does each day, and a little surprising all the things he sees.

Great Apple “Ad”

great-apple-ad

I found this on the net, on Digg actually. It looks like a fan made Apple commercial. It is really well done and I love the message in it. Watch it, you won’t be disappointed.
